The best laid plans…

The Pinewood Derby is this weekend.  Jack and his best friend Joey have a long-time rivalry revolving around the Cubs and White Sox.   When debating car designs, Jack decided on a Cubs theme this year.

Each year has had a different them – last year was Purdue, and 1st grade was a lightning hot rod.

When Joey heard about Jack’s plan for a Cubs’ car, he decided there needed to be a White Sox car as well…

In support of Jack, we decided the whole family would wear Cubs shirts to the race today.  Katie and I had fun picking out all the shirts, and everyone got dressed right away this morning.  The older girls even got tights out for Mary and Rachel to wear under shorts.  Jack was wearing his shirt under his Cub Scout uniform.  He gave Joey a White Sox t-shirt to match as an early birthday present.

We weren’t quite ready for church at 9AM, so Bryan and I were discussing what we were going to accomplish before we went to mass at 10:30AM.  That’s when “it” happened… Grace saying, “Katie got sick.”  It took us a long time to understand what she meant.  Ugh, the best-laid plans of mice and men.  The girls and I are home while Jack and Bryan are racing.   We are there in spirit though.  And we did get this picture before the “incident”:
